I think I said that this board was gorgeous and I hoped that it got into the Eddie. From what I saw of the Eddie today on-line -- hee hee, while at work -- the board was not out there in the water.

Maybe there should be a Triple Crown using only historically-based boards (nothing more advanced than pre-1920s models). It would be pretty cool.

Someone should sponsor it at least once. Just to say it was done.

Hi Roy...Nugget is McCoy's name. No issue with me. Yes we have some rail quads, a thruster rear and a bonzer type set up call bonfires. It's been fun. More than anything it has been nice to once again move away from conventional thinking about surfboard and fin designs. I personally think innovation stopped for awhile with the refinement of the so called modern thruster. Everything was geared around one style of surfing and much was lost with regards to trim, speed and momentum. I think singles are so much more versatile..especially with the wider tails and more pivot style fins.

Hi surfscience, there are lots of ways to make a tunnel, for example using a piece of plumbing pipe or laying up a panel from paper and resin ( very strong ) The tunnels shown here are held together with epoxy resin and wood dust, and will be sheathed on the outside with bamboo cloth.

Wow. That looks like a lot of steps to make a tunnel fin. Its not just skill sawing and planing like any sort of regular fin. What do you use to hold the individual pieces together and ensure they don't split in the middle? Are there some sort of ribs?

We've used the bandsaw for small boards but with a 12 foot board it's not easy especially in the nose area because the rocker means that the tail of the board is about 10 fet in the air. Also it means having two people holding the board, this gets tricky when trying to cut to curves as the person directing the board is about 8 to 10 feet from the blade and can't see accurately enough, this means they have to be directed by the person at the saw. . . very difficult.

The handsaw is a perfect solution because it does a great job, needs no electricity and gives beneficial exercise to the user, as well as being only $7 to buy. It only takes about 30 minutes, I spend longer than that just looking at the board afterwards, so no worries there.

Yeah, I can imagine it would be a lot of work. Why don't you use your bandsaw? It worked for me, although I guess that was a pretty huge bandsaw I used.
